Ryoko Minamitani

Ryoko Minamitani is a Japanese artist who studied mixed media painting under Yokoo Tatsuhiko, a Zen master and painter from Berlin, Germany. She now holds an MA in Art and Design from Leeds Beckett University and lives and works out of her studio in Wales.

Ryoko explores the relationship between spirituality and artistic expression. During meditative states, she transfers the true nature of her inner unconscious into her art works, particularly focusing on capturing the expressions of the soul. She is influenced by abstract expressionism, psychology and spiritualism such as Shintoism*, Buddhism, astrology and healing therapies.

Her work is created using a wide range of mixed media, including sand, pigment, pastel, ink, pencil and acrylics and have been shown in numerous exhibitions, galleries and private collections.

*Shintoism is an Ancient religion of Japan. It started at least as long ago as 1000 B.C.E. but is still practiced today by at least five million people. The followers of Shintoism believe that spiritual powers exist in the natural world.
